Signed Krieger Louis XV Chest, D’ore Mounts and Marble Top, French 19th Century

About the Item

This fantastic Louis XV two drawer Bombé commode features finely chased bronze d’ore mounts in the floriate manner throughout. The French antique piece dates back to the 19th century, circa 1880, and is signed by the artisan “Krieger,” well known for their craftsmanship and quality in the 1800s. The piece is inlaid with satin wood flowers below a beautifully contoured breche d’Alep marble top. The bronze d’ore works as a striking element to offer a sense of balance and movement. It both frames the inlaid floral pattern wonderfully, and offers accenting details as it rests on the top of the legs on the diagonal as well as the piece’s feet. The piece is part of the collection from The French Antique Shop, a fourth generation antique store in the heart of the French Quarter of New Orleans. A space that was created and curated at first by Marie and Marcelle and Garnet. Their first shop was located in the heart of Paris, and opened in 1919 after they migrated to Paris from Romania post World War I. Shortly after establishing themselves in Paris, as a Jewish family they were forced to flee in the late 1930s before World War II. Marie and Marcel opened up their shop in New Orleans in 1939, the city in which this antique collection has grown and continues to flourish. The store is now run by the third and fourth generation, Marc, Michael, and Brian Friedlander, and is a highly curated space filled with rare antiquities, fine antique lighting, eclectic fixtures, and everything in between. We have imported all the antique items in our collection directly from France
