Small Georgian Mahogany Chest Of Drawers

About the Item

A Very Good Quality Late 18th Century, George III Period Mahogany Chest, Of Rare Small Proportions, Having Well Figured Rectangular Top Over Four Long Drawers, With Replacement Brass Plate Handles, Raised On Elegant Original Splay Bracket Feet. This particular little late 18th, or early 19th century chest of drawers is a real charmer. It is constructed from very good quality mahogany timbers, which have retained a good colour and patina. The size is excellent and something which is so rarely found. It is perfect for such a huge variety of spaces around both the home and office and also incredibly functional. It would be absolutely great alongside a bed as a bedside table for example, something which the majority of chest of drawers are too big for. The handles are replacements, but of a late 18th century style and very much look the part on the piece. As mentioned above the elegant splay bracket feet are original and have a very classy look to them. As with all of the items which we offer for sale this georgian chest of drawers has been inspected in our workshops by our highly skilled, trained professional antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish to ensure it is ready for immediate placement within the home. • Georgian Yew Wood Miniature Chest of Drawers
    Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A charming and rare 18th century Georgian yew wood miniature chest having four long drawers with original brass knobs raised on original shaped bracket feet. (There is often debate as to whether miniature furniture was made as an apprentice piece, which is when a craftsmen who is looking for a job at a workshop would create something to showcase their talents, or whether it was made as a travelling salesman's sample piece, which is when a few articles were made as scale models in advance of a road trip during which a salesman would travel the country showing prospective clients the kind of items they could produce back at the workshop and take orders from. This particular example doesn't really appear to quite fit either of those briefs however and may well have just been made as an individual, one off piece in a provincial workshop. One of the reasons for this is the construction from solid yewwood which is a rarely used material in items any larger than this as the trunks generally don't grow large enough. The overall quality is  excellent and clearly somebody has spent many, many hours  producing this wonderful piece. A really quite charming piece of antique miniature furniture...
