18th century commode or chest of drawers Stamped Jean Charles ELLAUME with veined marble top Beautiful chest of drawers with a curved front opening to 4 drawers on 3 rows and bearing a double stamp. Two stamps of Jean-Charles ELLAUME, received master cabinetmaker on November 6, 1754. Two stamps of the cabinetmaker's corporation "JME" (Jurande des Maitres Ebénistes). 18th century furniture, Louis XV period and style. Dimensions of the furniture (height/width/depth): 80 x 130 x 65 cm. Artist exhibited at the museum of fine arts of Bernay, at the castle of Morlanne, at the castle of Vendeuvre, at the castle of Gizeux and at the royal castle of Wawel. Shape: Chest of drawers with curved front and rounded uprights Openings: 4 drawers opening on three rows, 2 small ones under the marble Ornamentation: Locks, fixed handles and apron in gilded bronze with volutes Marble: Moulded veined marble top. Marquetry: Wood veneer and filleted frames for the drawers and locks in the front. >> Jean Charles ELLAUME (1754) Jean-Charles Ellaume - sometimes called Allaume or Elleaume - was received as a master cabinetmaker on November 6, 1754. His workshop was located on rue Traversière in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine district of Paris until 1775. For more than thirty years, Jean-Charles Ellaume made numerous Louis XV, Regency and Louis XVI style chests of drawers. His workshop also produced furniture for his fellow cabinetmakers, such as Léonard Boudin and Jean-Baptiste Tuart. Jean Nicolay praises Ellaume in "L'art et la manière des maîtres ébénistes français au XVIIIème siècle": "The bronzes are always elegant and sober and discreetly ensure a distinguished ornamentation. In short, Ellaume was an excellent cabinetmaker who shows a perfect science of his art.
