About the Item

18th century, Italian Louis XV paved and inlaid chest of drawers with secretaire This small and valuable Chest of drawers was made in Piedmont, north of Italy, in the first half of the 18th century, Louis XV. Entirely paved in walnut wood, the Chest of Drawers is decorated with refined inlays in boxwood, whose clear color creates sophisticated chromatic effects of grade effect. The Chest of Drawers is a piece of furniture consisting of two parts, one lower and one higher. The lower part has two small side drawers and a large one below; the drawers, decorated with inlay, are embellished with chiselled and gilded bronze handles and locks. The upper part is instead composed of an opening compartment equipped with a small tilting door (secretaire) that, rotating on pins, can be lowered and raised according to the needs. When it is open it provides a comfortable writing surface, lined with leather, and reveals a series of five small drawers in which to store stationery and small personal items. It is very careful in the details also inside, with golden bronze knobs and decorations with wooden inlays. The Chest of Drawers rests on legs graceful and sinuous arched shape and move, characteristics of the time. The Chest of Drawers with Secretaire are very practical and elegant desk models, which have always had a wide spread and are still very sought after today. This Chest of Drawers can also be inserted in a contemporary home, as an alternative to the common desk.
