19th Century Empire Commode in Walnut
About the Item
As the second phase of Romanticism, the French Empire style is a design movement in furniture that flourished between 1800 and 1815 during the Consulate and the First French Empire periods. The style originated in France and takes its name from the rule of Napoleon I in the First French Empire. The designs drew for inspiration on symbols and ornaments borrowed from the glorious ancient Greek and Roman empires.
