Regence period Walnut Provencal "Linen-fold" Commode, c. 1720
About the Item
An unusual Louis XV period commode on raised cabriole legs, and with a solid Walnut front in serpentine 'linen-fold' design. Dating from the mid-1700s, and Provencal French in origin.
The two sliding drawers with fielded fronts in conforming linen-fold design, affixed with brass pulls with paterae back-plates.
The body with both dovetail and peg construction, the sides with recessed clover-leaf designs, and each cabriole leg with foliate carvings and ending in scroll feet atop pads.
Reference: "Mobelier Provencal", by Edith Mannoni: pg. 27 for a nearly identical 3-drawer commode with the same linen-fold design, and with identical brass pulls and similar recessed corner sections and cabriole legs.
