1965 Olive Ash Burl and Marble Credenza by Gordon Bunshaft of SOM

About the Item

This is a monumental custom 2-position credenza, produced in 1965 by Gordon Bunshaft for the interior of the Chase Manhattan Bank headquarters, one of Bunshaft and SOM's most notable projects. It features book-matched olive ash burl throughout the piece, and sports polished stainless steel pulls, legs, and trim. It has a lovely white marble slab on the top (top has been professionally re-polished). This piece is fully finished on all sides, allowing it to float in a room. Bunshaft was an important American architect; a leading figure in the modernist movement who was widely recognized for his work in skyscraper design. This cabinet measures 19 inches long, 36 inches wide, and 26.5 inches high including its marble top. There are some small superficial scrapes and nicks to the veneer, and some light scratches to the steel trim. There is evidence of two veneer repairs to the corners and edges of the drawers. Overall, this piece is in very good condition with some light wear apparent. Please see photos.
