These Late 18th-century Italian cupboards stand as a captivating testament to refined rustic elegance, their form beautifully merging historical utility with decorative charm. Dominating their presence is the striking cerulean blue paint, applied with a hand-brushed quality that hints at its artisanal origins. Over two centuries, this once vibrant hue has mellowed into a chalky, matte finish, exhibiting a delightful patina of age where the underlying pinewood or poplar might occasionally peek through at its worn edges and corners, revealing glimpses of the natural timber beneath.
The silhouette of these cupboards adheres to the emerging Neoclassical tastes of the period, favoring clean, understated lines over the flamboyant curves of Rococo. Their design features two large, paneled doors with the original hardware.
Condition commensurate with age. Various stains on interior portions, heavy traces of old worming in areas, early paint intact with various scuffs, dings and scrapes commensurate with a natural aged patina due to use and wear. Overall stable.
