Vintage Four-Door Oak warm brown cupboard by Piet Rombouts & Sons, 1960s

About the Item

On offer here is a distinguished four-door oak cupboard, meticulously crafted from reclaimed oak wood dating back to the 1960s. This unique piece was built by the esteemed Piet Rombouts & Sons furniture workshop, a legacy proudly continued by our family. The wood was sourced from very old German half-timbered houses and shows a remarkable grain pattern and worn surface. The wood was brought to the workshop in Zeelst, the Netherlands, and the most beautiful furniture was composed of this wood. Boasting a clean, timeless design with robust forged hinges, key plates, and locks, this cupboard exemplifies traditional craftsmanship. The visible wooden peg joints, each expertly carved into diamond-shaped heads, attest to its meticulous construction. Finished in a rich, warm brown stain, the wardrobe is coated with multiple layers of lacquer and beeswax for lasting preservation. The piece was gently cleaned in our atelier and a new protective wax layer was applied. The cupboard is very functional and ready for use.
