Antique Danish "Hans Christian Andersen" Desk or Writing Table in Figured Walnut

About the Item

A very handsome "Hans Christian Andersen" writing desk in beautiful figured walnut with one drawer over kneehole, flanked by two drawers on each side for a total of 5 working drawers. The writing surface offers a wooden gallery in the way of a molding on three sides. It rests on four baluster-turned legs & is finished in the back so may float in the middle of a space, if desired. Desk comes with original brass key plates & pulls, working locks & 1 key. Denmark, circa 1850. In the Danish author's birthplace in Odense, which is a museum, there is a simpler version of this desk which gives this form its name. Restored in our workshop with French-polish finish. Makes a lovely nightstand, dressing table or vanity, too! Measurements: 49 1/2" wide x 25" deep x 32" high to the top of the gallery; 30 1/2" from the floor to the writing surface. Knee hole is 19" wide with a 25" clearance from the floor to the underside of the center drawer. Work surface is 46" wide x 25" deep. Note: You should always request a shipping quote. Quoted amounts are an estimate of what it might cost to ship out to you based on destinations of the greatest distance. We would love to find you a better quote if possible.
