About the Item
a large scale desk / English library table, very generous proportions, painted and gilded Chinoiserie design with faux bamboo trim, embossed leather writing / work surface with slant (adjustable) writing board, drawers both front and back, adjustable book shelves front of desk, England, circa 1850
the Chubb's Patent locks and their address at 57 St. Paul's Churchyard, would indicate that the piece was made between 1827 and 1877 (see images)
In 1823, the Chubb company was awarded a special license to supply King George lV and the Royal Household.
