Oak Table or Desk Attributed Gilbert Pelletier, France, 1930s

About the Item

Finely crafted solid oak desk with exposed joinery in simple waterfall form attributed to French craftsman Gilbert Pelletier. Known best for his partnerships with early modernists Adolphe Chanaux and Jean-Michel Frank, Pelletier made sublimely simple modern furnishings, primarily in the 1920's and 30's. It is of the period Art Deco, but is a precursor to the mid-century modern movement. This desk was acquired from a French estate in Lyon with a matching oak framed mirror above it. The mirror has the Pelletier mark. The style and scraped oak are identical.
