Rococo 18th Century Yew and Elm Bureau Desk

About the Item

Rococo 18th century yew and elm bureau desk circa 1750. Stunning Swedish rococo period bombe shaped bureau.   Beautifully made from yew wood and elm, using various techniques such as parquetry, inlay and cross banding. Top surface and sides decorated in arranged veneers of yew, links to the slightly concave shaped fall.  Fall rests on pull out barers and gives a writing height of 31 inches, 78.75cm.  Generous writing surface and greeted by an interior of fitted drawers, with document storage above.  Below the fall are 3 drawers which comply with the bombe shape.  Fitted with ornate ormolu handles and escutheon plates, original locks with key.  Drawer fronts are veneered in a contrasting burr to give its 2 tone appearance. Standing on splayed feet linked by a shaped frieze, further decorated with ormolu mounts. Original colour and patina. Recently fully restored in our workshop.  Expected surface marks from age.  Ready for everyday use. Fall height: 31".
