About the Item

We are delighted to this absolutely sublime early Victorian Honduras mahogany with green leather top and brass reading rail twin pedestal bankers partners desk What a desk! circa 1840, used in banks for accounting with space to lay out multiple ledger books, room for at least four people to work, this would have been a very important piece in its day The frame is all Honduras mahogany which has an amazing timber patina, you can’t buy this wood anymore as it’s an endangered species, the top middle of the desk has an ornate brass gallery which is used for resting books, the green leather top is the original hide. You have two original keys which operate some of the locks, there is a side cupboard in one of the pedestals, the drawers either side are ¾ sized to make room for the cupboard, on the other side they are full sized and use all the space Condition wise is amazing for the age, there are two wear areas to the green leather top, one corner is missing, otherwise it’s an excellent example. We have cleaned waxed and polished it from top to bottom Dimensions: Height 117cm to the top of the brass rails, 81.5cm to the top of the writing slope, 77cm to the bottom of the slope Width 188cm Depth 163cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
