    A Very Attractive 18th Century, George III Period Oak Dresser Base, Of Unusual Small Proportions, Having Well Figured Rectangular Top Over Three Frieze Drawers, With Replacement Brass Plate Handles, Raised On Elegant Square Upright Supports With Original Potboard Shelf And Panelled Back Below. As suggested by the name the original purpose of a potboard shelf was to store all manner of pots and pans. These pots and pans were often still wet, very heavy, or possibly still hot when placed back onto the storage shelf and this is the reason that we regularly find potboard shelves replaced on antique dresser bases. The potboard shelf on this example is however original. Overall the dresser base is an extremely sweet size, perfect for a wide ranging variety of spaces around the home, due to its narrow proportions amongst other things. It is also very elegant and retains an excellent warm colour and patina, which is a consequence of years and years of hard graft...
