Pair of Acerbis Storet Dresser in Black Ash with Pink Glossy Lacquered UTOPIA

About the Item

DUPLEX presents UTOPIA: an exhibition that celebrates the spirit of the second postwar Italian Design Revolution. On view now at the Duplex Gallery @ The Mill Building Williamsburg. “The fantastic achievement of Italian Design is the incredibly rich cultural transfer into mass products. The influence of these pieces in the pop culture is incommensurable; I like to make a parallel with the Beatles in popular music. Perhaps, in our modern advanced digitalized democracies, design has lost a bit of its ingenuity and the utopic world is no longer being sought. I want this exhibit to be a tribute to the original vision that permeated the early years of Italian design.” The exhibition feat selection of iconic pieces, with a focus on Acerbis: the “Free System” sofa and “Napoleone” table by Claudio Salocchi, “Due Più” chairs and “Storet” chests by Nanda Vigo and the “Florian”folding table by Vico Magistretti. These, along with cc-tapis rug designed by the Georgian duo “Rooms Studio”, an original 1958 Luigi Caccia Dominioni “Catilina” armchair, a 1973 “Orseolo” desk designed by Scarpa and the 1975 masterpiece “Bramante" sideboard by Kazuhide Takahama for Simon. A couple of “Botolo” chairs by Cini Boeri for Arflex in Casentino wool, the “Dolmen” lamp by Ferruccio Laviani for Foscarini and the instant classic “Spade”chair by Faye Toogood for Please Wait to be Seated. Diptych - Tar on Canvas “Untitiled”: (No Trace - 2009 -2010 ) is an work by John Colao inspired and created during the Big Sur basin fire in 2009. In 1994 Nanda Vigo designed a ten-drawer cabinet for Acerbis Storet. It became part of the Bed Side collection thanks to its bedroom-style finishes. The current version preserves its poetic dimension and introduces contemporary elements that enable it to be versatile in the living and dining area. Structure and drawers A chest of drawers’ system made of medium density wood fibre with open grain brushed veneer in black ash and dark stained walnut finishes. The furniture’s key element is the drawers’ moulding and it is available in glossy lacquered burgundy, pink, dark green, mustard yellow, brick red, clay, white and black. Drawers can be partial extracted, with interior made of open grain veneered. Storet is available as a four-drawer chest or ten-drawer dresser. Both are equipped with internal weights to increase stability when opening." Nanda Vigo was born in Milan in 1936. She lives in Milan and East Africa. In 1959 she set up her own studio in Milan and exhibited her work in galleries and museums in Europe and Italy. In 1965 she curated the legendary exhibition “ZERO avantgarde” in Lucio Fontana’s Milan studio. Vigo’s work is interdisciplinary, combining art, design, architecture and the environment, and she is involved with numerous projects as an architect, designer and artist. What distinguishes her lively career is attention to and research into Art, something which has pushed her to collaborate with some of the most significant figures of our time and to always undertake projects aimed at promoting Art.
