About the Item
At Ahu, we are inspired by the shamanic roots and traditions that underpin the cultures of Asia Minor, and the value that their populations attribute to talismans and symbols of luck. We create custom and limited edition collectible design pieces that are functional as well as sculptural, bringing stories of good fortune and a sense of well-being into people's homes.
Istanbul’s rich history of craftsmanship is celebrated in each piece which is made in third generation small workshops scattered around the city. We work within a language of artisanship that is not only relevant to the place of Ahu’s origin, but also respectful of the longevity of the pieces. Mixing traditional woodworking techniques, luxurious durable materials and modern finishes, we strive to make timeless and exquisite pieces that can become modern heirlooms.
The centrepieces of the debut collection, the solid wood and lacquer Meyhane drinks cabinets, are designed to highlight rare whiskies and spirits for the discerning collector. Each piece of furniture is crafted from a solid walnut structure, with doors and side panels that are printed and varnished by hand with multiple layers of high gloss lacquer. Metal detailing is hand-worked to order for each piece by expert blacksmiths in copper plated brass.
An individual, engraved metal plaque displays the edition number of each piece. Fits approximately 30 bottles.
