About the Item

This Scandinavian contemporary bar unit is a handmade piece made in Sweden by designer Per Söderberg. The piece can be used as a bar unit, as a storage cabinet or as a small work desk. The top is made in valchromat with a low sheen finish and has a flip door front in brass. The elegant base is made of black powder coated metal. The decorative and functional circular fittings are made in solid raw brass. Launched in 2010, the "No Early Birds" collection by Swedish architect and designer Per Söderberg is a collection of furniture made out of a limited number of elements. It all started with a dining table where the designer's ambition was to create a base that would be both elegant and functional and without the impracticability of one leg in each corner. The table should also be hassle free to transport and assemble. The solution? A fully visible and decorative screw head fitting that has become a trademark for the "No Early Birds" range. Today, these two design elements can be found in almost all "No Early Birds" pieces, creating instant recognition and representing the simple philosophy behind the collection: "The design principles I developed for the first table where naturally applicable to other types of furniture. This simplicity is not only a design issue, but it also enables an effective manufacturing process with few components and a few selected suppliers. That is something that the "No Early Birds" collection has in common with other iconic design classics that where designed during during the postwar era and that are still produced today." — Per Söderberg. Stockholm born designer Per Söderberg is trained at Domus Academy in Milan, Italy, and is much inspired by Italian design such as Gio Ponti and Carlo Scarpa. The "No Early Birds" collection combines the simplicity and functionalism of Scandinavian design with the sophistication of Italian elegance. Since his return to Stockholm and after establishing his own design studio in 1997, Per has led numerous interior design projects for shops, offices, restaurants and private homes. International clients include Moschino, J.Lindeberg and famous Swedish glass manufacturer Orrefors to mention a few. The "No Early Birds" collection is handmade in Sweden with eco-friendly, sustainable materials and production methods. Since its launch in 2010, No Early Birds has has been exhibited at the Stockholm Furniture Fair, Maison & Objet in Paris, London Design Festival and at the Salone del Mobile in Milan. It has been published in a large number of magazines. The bureau is made to order and the base is also available in custom color.
