Antique French Renaissance Open Bookcase
About the Item
Antique French Renaissance Open Bookcase is the perfect choice for a compact, shallow bookshelf that takes up a minimal amount of floor space yet is capable of holding dozens of books for your instant access! Hand-crafted from solid old-growth oak are the intriguing side supports that date to the mid-19th century, carved by a master artisan in stylized naturalistic form using shell and foliage as models. At some point early last century they were combined into the framework you see here, with a contoured and beveled top and four shelves added for a total of five surfaces including the top, with its beautifully scrolled edging. Meticulously hand-crafted to repurpose the carvings, it is an ideal piece for cozy offices, hallways, or anywhere one needs display space or book storage.
