Michael Anastassiades founded his own design studio in London in 1994. Trained in industrial design and engineering at the Royal College of Art in London and at Imperial College, the Cypriot designer designs lighting, mirrors, and furniture halfway between industrial design, sculpture, and decorative art. Simple in appearance, yet meticulously detailed, these creations reflect his training as a civil engineer and industrial designer. Michael Anastassiades is particularly renowned for his lighting, which represents 80% of his studio's work. He often chooses reflective materials - such as glass and polished bronze - in order to dematerialize his objects, and give the feeling of floating and of being independent of the space that surrounds them. Since his collaboration with the architectural firm Studio Mumbai (2006), Michael Anastassiades has increasingly come to work with the world's greatest architects - including David Chipperfield and John Pawson - and interior designers such as Studio Ilse. His designs can be found in many hotels, restaurants, and stores around the world - including the Grand Hotel in Stockholm, the Soho House in New York, and the Sergio Rossi boutiques. In addition to being commissioned by private patrons and clients all over the world - Anastassiades works with many world-renowned avant-garde designers and prestigious manufacturers, including Hussein Chalayan, Swarovski Crystal Palace, Lobmeyer, and Svenskt Tenn.
