Chinese Lacquered Scholars' Shelf, c. 1850
About the Item
This striking red and black lacquer bookcase once stood in the center of a traditional Chinese scholars' studio, displaying a collection of books, scrolls, and treasured objects. The elegant case has two shallow drawers and four open shelves, each thoughtfully framed by a quadrilobe cutout finished with bright red lacquer.
