1700s Antique Dutch Marquetry, Inlaid, Display Vitrine on Chest!!

About the Item

Gorgeous Antique Vitrine On Chest, Dutch Marquetry, Inlaid, Display, 18th C., 1700s!! Dutch marquetry inlaid vitrine on chest, approximately 92" height, 73" width, 21" depth made in the 18th / 19th century. Many Dutch cabinets, or presses, and French armoires, can be found in large houses throughout Ireland. Being very spacious they were used mainly as wardrobes. The Dutch had a vast trade with the East and introduced novel materials such as cane and lacquer. The Dutch were among the first to favour marquetry, parquetry and veneer over carved oak furniture. They were also using joined panelling by 1400, an important feature in making furniture lighter in construction. The beautiful linenfold decoration on panels was introduced shortly after this date, according to Independent Ie. 115t23 "Old World Elegance at Reasonable Prices!"
