French Marriage Buffet a Deux-Corps in Carved Oak from Normandy, circa 1800
Located in Miami, FL
A lavishly carved wedding piece, this oak buffet a deux-corps from Normandy, is embellished with foliage and flowers in carved relief, as well as offering beautifully-articulated applied carvings in high relief as seen in the central flower-filled basket and flanking floral sprays, which are symbolic of a fruitful union. It features the original hand-blown glass, as well as the original pulls, key plates, locks, one key, shelves, and carved escargot feet. A dowry piece of this quality would have been commissioned for a bride of some financial & social standing. France, circa 1800 or earlier (late 18th century).
