- Condition:Additions or alterations made to the original: Hanging bar has been added in the past.. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. Some dark marks to the front side panels and marks to the drawer, a drying line to the base left side and some nibbles to the timber at the bottom edges of sides of the hanging section.

Highlighted with plentiful boxwood stringing to the front and sides, the stage has a central inlaid tablet flanked by a pair of tambour doors and sits between the original knife boxes still with their original cutlery fittings. The lower section has shaped bowfront top with three drawers above a central arch with recessed tambour door cupboard behind and flanked by a deep cellarette drawer and matching cupboard both with dummy drawer fronts, all with brass oval handles and original locks and supported on six ring turned and reeded tapering legs. A Glasgow School Arts and Crafts stained green cypress wood wardrobe, with white opaque textured square glass details to the top. The central door and a large lower drawer with brass heart escutcheons and brass stylized foliate hinges and handles. The simple case construction and stained green cypress wood and grouping of square details are typical of Mackintosh's early work for Guthrie and Wells including items bought by William Davidson for his house Gladsmuir, Kilmacolm. The brass cabinet fittings are identical on a number of pieces, see Billcliffe, p. 33, fig. 1895.2 and 1895.3 for a washstand and dressing table designed by Mackintosh, also made by Guthrie and Wells. Also a white painted wardrobe/compactum. The over-hanging cornice has been adapted with hinged flaps to move it up a narrow staircase.
