Early 18th Century Country French Louis XIII Armoire

About the Item

Early 18th Century Country French Louis XIII Armoire is a stately expression of the genre, rendered by talented artisans with what would today be considered primitive tools yet resulting in a lasting testament to techniques and training honed over the course of centuries in the honorable profession of furniture making! A restrained crown molding and base molding provide a framework fort the main facade which is dominated by two massive doors, each hand-carved and crafted with three panels. The uppermost features a subtle arched, raised & recesssed panel, with the middle smaller panel exhibiting a more pronounced arch, while the lower panel is a straight-lined rectangle, all finely chamfered and framed in hand-cut molding for frameworks. Each door is hung with two large hand-forged steel barrel hinges and remarkably the upper and lower finials on each hinge remain intact. Key guards display a bit of flourish, and protect the keyhole going to the original lock. Doors open wide to provide unfettered access, with the interior ready to customize to your particular needs and desires. Note the hand-hewn plank and panel construction of the back side. Even the sides of the armoire are designed with the three panel design, with amazing attention paid to the edging and molding detail throughout. Note the double-pegged mortise & tenon joinery that ensures this instant family heirloom will become a source of pride for your family for the next several generations. Circa early 18th century.
