The striking pattern of the matched walnut timber on this antique French Louis Philippe armoire emphasizes the simple and clean lines for which the Louis Philippe style is famous for. Please notice the height of this French armoire which at 96" gives the proper elongated appearance that makes the proportions so pleasing as well as showcasing to advantage the grain of the walnut. The crown of this French walnut cabinet possesses a pleasingly gentle curve that flares outward from the body and references the undulation of the line of the timber grain. The crown of course is separate from the body and lifts off for ease of transportation when the armoire is moved. The pair of cabinet doors are secured by the original iron lock which is released with its original key allowing both the right and left door to fully open and lie flat across the front. The left door even has an upper and lower bolt which secures the door at the top and bottom precluding the door from warping. The right door lock triggers a long iron bolt to rotate and hook at the top and bottom again ensuring the door does not warp but stays straight and true. These mechanisms are only present in finer quality cabinets where the cabinet maker chose to ensure the longevity of a handsome piece. When opened the cabinet reveals a later innovation with the addition of adjustable shelves set along a track concealed in each corner of the interior. The ability to change the height and placement of the shelves for display or a television along with other electronics continues its usefulness here in the twenty first century. The panelled sides and the front supports with their elegant scroll serve to finish the base of the Louis Philippe armoire in an elegant manner while keeping to the overall simplicity that gives this piece of French craftsmanship its timeless appeal. The width shown refers to the body of the armoire and the crown measures 64" wide. width inside- 63 1/2"W.
