Elegant Soft Green Painted French Marriage Armoire from the 19th Century.
The "Normandie Armoire Du Marriage" was a traditional gift to a newly wed couple that dates back hundreds of years in France! This one is a particularly wonderful example of skilled rural craftsmanship to create a master work that was literally designed to last for centuries.
This French marriage armoire is dating back to approximately 1850. In the center, at the top, you will find a carving of a wedding basket and foliage motifs symbolising abundance and fertility. Doors are hung with three steel barrel hinges each, allowing them to open wide making for easy access, and allowing the next owners of this armoire to utilise the interior for an unlimited amount of purposes!
This armoire has been restored and coated in a soothing soft green hue. The interior is painted fresh red, with three shelves and two drawers.
This generously sized armoire is exceptionally well-preserved for an antique, having undergone restoration and recolouring. The signs of wear on this armoire are consistent with its age and usage, and it remains in excellent operational condition.
This armoire is crafted entirely from oak wood, ensuring robustness and longevity. It has undergone a thorough anti-termite treatment for added protection.
For transport this armoire will be taken apart and will consist of the top, sides, back parts, doors, bottom and shelves, all flat pack.
