Monumental hunting wardrobe, Ile de France, Regence period, circa 1720-1730. Hunting wardrobe, Ile de France, Regence period, circa 1720-1730. Monumental armoire called "hunting" solid blond oak. Model curved front and sides, opening with two leaves "two developments" finely carved Mercure attributes god of commerce for the left door and Diane goddess of the hunt for the right door. Doors listed carved rosettes, flowers and acanthus in circular medallions. Amounts in bundles. High ledge decorated with a large shell, falls of flowers and acanthus spandrels in concealing fittings returns. Low ledge recesses canted to the amounts. The interior of the four-door and two-part reveals a rich ornamentation carved and nailed brass. Beautiful original ironwork casement in which chisel pumps casement bolts, locks and key. Mounting tires land and laces brackets. Perfect condition. Île de France, Regence period, circa 1720-1730. Measures: Height 277 cm; width 195 cm; depth: 70 cm. Our opinion: Our cabinet offers a dual function "hunting" and presentation. As Diane indicates attributes, side wings housed a collection of rifles, some were over two meters. The central part decorated with an extraordinary decoration allowed to present silverware or earthenware. Perfectly symmetrical and even with a low ledge our cabinet dates from the period of the regency or the beginning of the reign of Louis XV from 1720-1730 to. The quality of the sculpture and curves, combined with hunting rights reserved to the nobility show us clearly that the sponsor of this cabinet was leading a rich lord. The cut brass technique, derived from Boulle marquetry, is usually reserved for small structures (cartels, boxes ...); it is expressed by an area of ??several square meters. Despite significant research in our archives, museums, public and private collections we have found no furniture bearing this type of decoration. It is an unusual and probably unique testimony.
