Rare 18th Century French Louis XV Period Walnut Armoire Pantalonnier Deux Corps

About the Item

18th century French Louis XV period armoire deux corps pantalonnier handcrafted of old growth French walnut by skilled artisans in the South of France near Aix-en-Provence, circa 1750s. Similar to a linen press, this rare two-piece cabinet features an upper armoire with a chapeau de gendarme crown sitting atop a hand carved frieze. Inset molded panel doors open to reveal spacious interior storage with three shelves. The lower chest having two intricately carved large molded panel drawers with stylized acanthus leaves and center medallions surrounding the brass escutcheons. Original brass drop bail handles. Carved, shaped apron with center acanthus leaves motif resting on short cabriole legs ending in scrolled French toes. A beautiful and rich patina accents the elegant design of this antique armoire that was originally intended for the storage of pants. Dimensions: H - 98.5" W - 60" D - 25.5" bottom; 17" top.
