About the Item
This very rare and iconic piece of furniture is one of the most sought after Austrian Post War Designs and has been designed by Roland Rainer the most famous Viennese Midcentury Modern architect for the Vienna City Hall in 1956. Roland Rainer was responsible for the architecture of the building as well as for the interior. He won the international competition ahead of Alvar Aalto and considered his design as a complete work. Both the interior and the building were subject of a common thought.
Very well known and sought after as well are the stacking chairs he used there.
The wardrobe or cloth rack is manufactured of blackened iron with nickel plated hooks (similar to chrome). Its pure and functional design makes it a timeless design icon not only for Austrian Design.
It is in original vintage condition with wear and patina.
In 2002, the vienna city hall was modernized and the coat racks were replaced by new ones. only a few could be saved from being scrapped. This is one piece of them.
