Cast Iron Scale Model of the Townley Vase, Val d'Osne Foundry, circa 1870
Located in Kinderhook, NY
Rare and spectacular circa 1870 cast iron actual scale model of the Townley Vase by French foundry Val d'Osne, having original black and silver paint scheme on faux-marbre painted plinth, the volute-krater form vase decorated in high-relief with a Bacchic scene, featuring Pan and followers of the wine-god Bacchus dancing in revelry. The Townley Vase is a large Roman marble vase of the 2nd century CE, discovered in 1773 by Scottish antiquarian and antiquities dealer Gavin Hamilton while excavating a Roman villa at Monte Cagnolo, Lazio, Italy. Its name comes from the English collector Charles Townley, who purchased it from Hamilton in 1774 for £250. Early-Mid-20th Century Neoclassical Lyre Back Accent Chairs Black & Gold a Pair
Located in Topeka, KS
Lovely Early to Mid-20th Century Neoclassical black & gold painted lyre back accent or occasional chairs with round seats & black, beige, and gray striped fabric, a pair. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. The frames have lots of wonderful patina that we feel has “aged them to perfection,” and the fabric is in excellent condition. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Early to Mid-20th Century. Liar, Liar, Pants on… Oh wait, not the same thing… BUT these chairs are ABSOLUTELY FIRE!!! This is a FABULOUS pair of Neoclassical style lyre back accent or occasional chairs comprised of black painted frames with hand carved details and gold painted designs on their lyre style backs which also bear three cylindrical slats in the center. They have slightly splayed legs with gold painted feet and round seats covered in a beautiful black, beige, and gray striped fabric. The seats are petite, we think they kind of resemble orchestra seats and the frames have wonderful patina which has created an “aged to perfection” vintage appearance… They are nothing short of FANTASTIC!! They will be wonderful in your sitting room with an accent table between them, in the living room across from your sofa, or place them at a small table for two...
