Antique American Renaissance Revival Serpentine Walnut Marquetry Center Table

About the Item

An exceptional American Renaissance Revival center table, circa late 19th century. Features a serpentine form with walnut burl top centered by floral marquetry, inlay and banding. The table is supported by turned and fluted columns leading to an ornate base of foliate, acanthus and carved details connected by a turned central stretcher. Includes torchiere finials, "C" scroll feet and gold trimmings throughout. The American Renaissance was a period of American architecture and the arts from 1876 to 1917 characterized by renewed national self-confidence and a feeling that the United States was the heir to Greek democracy, Roman law, and Renaissance humanism. The era spans the period between the Centennial Exposition (celebrating the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence) and the United States' entry into World War I.
