French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Belle Époque Period Table Attributed to Linke
About the Item
A stunning and extremely high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Belle Époque period mahogany, burl Elm, ormolu and Brèche d'Alep marble center table/desk attributed to François Linke. The desk is raised by elegant square tapered legs with beautiful fitted mottled ormolu sabots with fine acanthus leaves and intricately detailed pierced ormolu mounts above of charming richly chased musical instruments such as castanets, pan flutes, tambourines and flutes amidst a quiver and the eternal flamed below mottled foliate top caps. Above each leg are exceptional ormolu rosettes in a striking satin and burnished finish flanking the straight apron with one central drawer. The drawer is decorated with an intricately detailed central ormolu keyhole escutcheon of a charming Bacchanalian mask flanked by richly chased cornucopias and lovely branches with blooming flowers set on a beautiful burl Elm background showcasing the wood grain and framed within a fine mottled wrap around Coeur de Rai band. Above is the original fitted Brèche d'Alep marble top with a fine mottled border and framed within an elegant foliate wrap around ormolu gallery.
François Linke (1855-1946) Renowned 19th Century Parisian Ébéniste. Linke created historical interpretations of Louis XV and Louis XVI styles. He displayed at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1900 where he received a gold medal.
