About the Item

Glass coffee table ensemble of three by Sebastian Scherer Dimensions: CAMO A : W 75 x D 80 x H 35 cm CAMO B : W 60 x D 110 x H 40 cm CAMO C : W 60 x D 110 x H 30 cm Material: Dichroic Glass (laminated safety glass): blue/orange; gold/indigo; pink/green The Camo tables are inspired by the camou?age pattern, which is used to disguise objects by making their contours appear to dissolve. This effect is also visible on the Camo Tables: the three geometrical shapes were constructed from a constant circle radius to create a three dimensional camou?age pattern when they‘re grouped, which is extendable any number of times in every direction. The single shape appears to dissolve. The combination of the three materials marble, brass and glass in three different heights enable a great number of combination possibilities.

Peter Ghyczy is one of many designers in the 20th century who were also immigrants - including Henry van de Velde, Marcel Breuer, Hans Gugelot, Peter Maly - and had a major influence on German and international design. In 1968 he took a leading position at the company Elastogran in Lemförde in southern Lower Saxony, where he was responsible for the development of products made of polyurethane. Company owner Gottfried Reuter, a former chemist at Bayer in Leverkusen, was an expert in polyurethane production, for which he held several patents. In the 1960s he formed a group of companies (with a turnover of several hundred million German marks based on these patents). Between 1968 and 1972, Peter Ghyczy developed many innovative designs, identifying him as one of the most prolific designers of these years. In 1970 the Design-Center in Lemförde was inaugurated, built according to the design of Ghyczy, made entirely of polyurethane and the first of its kind. It was one of the early German design studios whose close collaboration between product design and technical development was hitherto unheard of in the plastics industry. This design studio produced many new, modular components, such as canopies, facade elements...
