1960s Bernhard Rohne for Mastercraft Acid-Etched Brass Coffee Table Mid Century

About the Item

Designed in the 1960s by Bernhard Rohne, this table features an incredibly intricate surface made with innovative techniques and metal construction customary of boutique furniture retailers at the time. What makes Rohne and his pieces so amazing is the variation between them. While put into production at some scale, each piece is different, and after handling many of these pieces, one can see a progression in his work over the years. This particular table features the intense intricacy seen in the early Rohne works, as opposed to the curvier designs seen in the latter part of production. You can never run out of details to look at in this piece. Every corner has a new hand-drawn feature to look at, all set on a background of patinated and sealed brass. The colors are a result of the technique used to build it: the top surface was selectively etched using acid to leave the design behind. Then it was fixed onto a square brass frame, resulting in a table that looks in place in any modern home. In very good original condition. Table is solid and sturdy with normal signs of light use.
