Born in 1965 in Japan, lives and works in the Gers, France.
Maarten Stuer is a Flemish sculptor who graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 1989, specializing in graphic arts, drawing, and lithography.
In 1990, he moved to Barcelona to study ceramics at the Escola Superior d’Art i Disseny Llotja. He has lived in the Gers for the past twenty-five years, where he explores the limits of ceramic material in a research focused on the presence and absence of matter.
Often monumental, Maarten Stuer’s stoneware sculptures are inspired by the impeccable geometry of living forms and the movement of the world. His blocks, lightened by holes and meshes or arranged in subtle balances, evoke celestial bodies, waves, or shells, each time moving toward greater abstraction and poetry.
