Chinese Export Leather Trunk, circa 1820
About the Item
Chinese Export camphor wood and leather trunk with iron carrying handles, painted red with floral borders, corners and escutcheon, decorated with brass tacks; the carved and painted base a later addition.
Measures: 37" x 21" x 20.75" high, with base.
With its monogramed top, this elaborate trunk was certainly made to order. The pair of carved and painted feet were probably made sometime in the mid/late 19th century, when the handles were replaced.
