Chippendale Style English Wood Coffee Table

About the Item

We kindly suggest that you read the whole description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to ensure the authenticity of our objects. The peculiar and elegant Chippendale coffee table is made of ebonized Sapele wood of the best quality; the rectangular shaped upper top has been shaped with a scalloped delicate and refined line; it has a second comfortable table top in the lower part also rectangular scalloped connected to the legs with sophisticatedly shaped partitions; the legs have a classic and soft "cabriole" shape. For the construction of this coffee table, Sapele, a prestigious reddish-colored wood similar to mahogany from Equatorial Africa, was ebonized. This sought-after material has a tight texture and interwoven fibers, fine and even, and with a good natural luster. It is a sturdy, rather flexible, hard, and compact type of wood. It is usually used for luxury furniture and cabinetry, but also in the interior decoration of yachts and yachts as well as in sophisticated and expensive musical instruments. The coffee table was handcrafted in the Chippendale style between 1920 and 1925 in a cabinetmaking workshop in the county of Devon in Southeast England, a craft area also known for woodworking. Toward the end of the 18th century, an English cabinetmaker named Thomas Chippendale invented a series of furniture complements characterized by a unique and sophisticated style, called precisely, Chippendale. It is one of the most famous styles that originated in England but quickly spread throughout Europe. The uniqueness of the Chippendale style mainly concerns their origin and thus, the artistic currents that influenced their design. The creator of these furnishings made them with the typically French aesthetics of Louis XV furniture and the Rococo style in mind and fabricated simplified "English-style" versions of them. Chippendale furniture, both English and of other nationalities, is manufactured with materials and techniques of the highest quality; therefore, it is durable and long-lasting. Such peculiarities, combined with refined and elegant aesthetic taste, make them still highly valued and sought after today. Once placed inside a room, these furnishings are indeed able to give spaces a special sense of warmth that makes them cozy and comfortable. Although Chippendale furniture has an extremely classic design, it can easily be placed in a modern context, as it is still very contemporary. The coffee table has been hand restored by our team of craftsmen and is in excellent condition. Measures width cm.68, depth cm.47, height cm.73. • Louis Philippe Style Feather Walnut Coffee Table With Tripod North Italy

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Elegant round coffee table from northern Italy with "orange slice" veneered with walnut-feather; the central stem of the tripod is in hexagonal solid wood; the three final supports, always in solid wood, are shaped and well whittled with simple and rigorous lines; at the center of the table, there is a delicate and refined inlay reproducing a rose, made by hand with soft precious woods, the two peripheral circles of the top are always inlaid. The most interesting and compelling feature of this table is the workmanship with which it was made: the " wood veneer"( Attention. The exact term is Italian "lastronatura" untranslatable in English, in fact, the "lastronatura" is very different and older than “wood veneer”. Read explanation later). The”lastronatura” is an artisan technique that spread already during the sixteenth century and remained unchanged until the mid-nineteenth century before the Industrial Revolution; it consisted of hand-cutting the trunks of noble wood (walnut, mahogany, briar, walnut-feather, etc.) with ancient saws in so many layers with thicknesses ranging from 4 to 6 millimeters, which were then applied to furniture for decorative purposes; the finishing of this procedure was very complex: the wood layer was treated with natural earth dissolved in water for the desired shade, it was aged with stone, fixed with shellac applied with a brush and finally polishing was performed in 12 steps...
