Coffee Table "TOMBINO"
Structure made by recovering a cast iron casting , which served as a frame for a real street manhole , abandoned , and found by chance in a parking lot in Milan.
The cast iron frame was intentionally hand-brushed to remove the rust and impurities , accumulated during the many years of neglect , and was then treated with a special liquid , to stop the oxidizing action of the air on the metal , this liquid nevertheless leaves intact the color that the cast iron has acquired during the years of exposure to the elements.
The frame originally , was found broken into 3 parts , and was reconsolidated and restored to the original form , through the application of 3 screwed legs , handmade of square-section tubular brass , in 3 different sizes , the legs were later gilded (24kt) by galvanic bath and transparent protective varnish
the top housed inside the frame is a 20-millimeter-thick , multicolored cast Murano vertro , the center of which has been silvered on the back in order to make the colors of the glass even brighter.
The coffee table is a one-of-a-kind piece signed with a glued brass plate bearing the words ROBERTO AND MORGAN RIDA father and son respectively.
Their creative minds come together to give life to works of great expressive force that possess the distinctive traits of both ,Roberto's formal and precious elegance and the rawness of salvaged materials used by his son Morgan, in an original synergy to reinterpret contemporary furniture accessories.
the coffee table is entirely handmade in Italy and is shipped with proper packaging for protection and fumigated and certified wooden crate for international shipping bearing R.G.RIDA logo.
