Contemporary gilt and silvered bronze animalier coffee table
Continental, 21st Century
Height 58cm, width 160cm, depth 80cm
This wonderful coffee table is after an example of JM David, an important French sculptor who died in 2015. The table is crafted from bronze that has been gilt and silvered. The gilt bronze legs and stretcher of the table are profusely moulded with naturalistic, foliate forms and motifs. The stretcher hosts a series of silvered bronze animals, including rhinos and lions, all of which drink from a watering hole. The table is surmounted by a glass tabletop, which allows full view of the scene unfolding beneath.
