A Fine Italian Carved Giltwood Low Centre Table with A Pietre Dure Marble Top. This impressive giltwood low table has a fine pietre dure inlaid marble top inset within a gadrooned border above a shaped foliate carved apron, the table is raised on ‘S’-scroll and acanthus carved legs with ball feet, united by a corresponding carved central stretcher. The rectangular pietre dure top has canted corners and is centred by a Belgian black marble cartouche inlaid with ribbon tied flowers of shaded agates, marble, and lapis, within a wide border of pink brocatelle marble, framed by a wide outer border of Belgian black marble, inlaid to the angles with further foliate sprays. Italian, Circa 1860.

    A Very Fine Pair of Napoleon III Style Pietre Dure Bookcases Attributed to Auguste-Hippolyte Sauvrezy (1815-1854). This exceptional pair of ebonised bookcases each have a moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors set within finely cast gilt-bronze frames and enclosing three adjustable shelves, all above a frieze drawer and a pair of cupboards with moulded frames. The frieze beneath the cornice is inlaid with panels of Brèche Violette marble centred by a lozenge of Rouge Griotte.     A Napoleon III gilt-bronze and onyx centre table, By Maison Marnyhac, Paris. Signed to the edge of the stretcher 'MAISON MARNYHAC 1. RUE DE LA PAIX PARIS'. This opulent centre table has a beautifully patterned onyx top inset within stiff-leaf cast gilt-bronze border and guilloche patterned frieze. The legs modelled as female terms with arms crossed and holding atop their heads flower filled baskets. The lower part of the legs are formed as tapering pilasterrs joined by an elaborate loop stretcher with central platform. France, Circa 1865 This table is exemplary of the finest luxury furniture made during the opulent Second Empire period. The use of Algerian onyx-marble is especially indicative of this period as it was not until the 1840s that the quarries near Constantine in Algeria, then under French rule, which had been abandoned since antiquity, were rediscovered. Alphonse Pallu et Cie presented the stone at the Exhibition of Algerian Products in Paris in 1860 and established the Compagnie des Marbres Onyx...

    A fine Louis XVI Style gilt bronze and Pietre Dure mounted ebonised writing table, retailed by Edwards & Roberts. French, circa 1870. The drawer edge stamped 'Edwards & Roberts'. This Fine ebonised writing table has a three-quarter galleried superstructure with cavetto moulding above three cupboards, each with a panel door inset with Fine pietre dure panels of vases issuing flowers. The lower part of the table has a pullout / pull-out writing slide with a dark blue leather writing surface, above a long drawer centred by a tablet mounted with a foliate pietre dure panel. The table is raised on tapering square section legs united by an 'X'-frame stretcher centred by a gilt bronze vase. The beautiful Florentine pietre dure panels are inlaid in high relief with shaded agates marble, and semi-precious stones. The combination of Fine gilt bronze mounts on an ebonised ground enriched with Fine pietre dure inlay indicates the work of one of the best Parisian ébénistes of the period. Edwards & Roberts, was one of the principal London companies working in the nineteenth century in the taste of the late Eighteenth Century. They started business in 1845 and by 1854 were trading as 'Edwards & Roberts, 21 Wardour Street, Antique and Modern Cabinet Makers and Importers of Ancient Furniture'. Wardour Street became an important furniture retailing area in the second half of the 19th century. Contemporary documents note '... a fine and complete library...
