Two-Tier Brass Coffee Table Lucite Signed by Charles Hollis Jones
Located in Cathedral City, CA
Metric line two-tier lucite coffee table with brass finish frame signed by Charles Hollis Jones Provenance directly from Private collection of CHJ. Charles Hollis Jones Started Metric collection designed in the 1960s. About Charles Hollis Jones: Charles Hollis Jones is an American artist and furniture designer who is recognized by the Smithsonian Institution for his pioneering use of acrylic and lucite. Born in Bloomington, Indiana in 1945, Jones moved to Los Angeles, California at the age of 16 and founded CHJ Designs. At the time, acrylic and plastic were not commonly used as a material for upscale furniture and art, but Jones, seeing its potential, began creating unique pieces for some of the city’s most renowned showrooms, such as Hudson-Rissman. His work was well received by both art critics and Hollywood celebrities alike. Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball and Johnny Carson were among some of the first to commission Jones Tennessee Williams commissioned Jones to design a comfortable, yet modern writing chair. The result was the Wisteria chair, where the writer spent much time when at home. In the 1970s Jones crafted his award-winning Edison Lamp Using original Thomas Edison light bulbs, Jones created a unique lamp with steel and lucite to show the inner workings of Edison’s original technology. This won him the California Design 11 Competition and special recognition from the German government. His work has been featured in a number of museums, including the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, California, and the The Los Angeles Times has referred to him as a pioneer in acrylic design.”Jones resides in the Burbank area of Los Angeles and is still designing furniture and accessories. He is active in numerous charities and often designs awards for various organizations including the sculpture for the 2008 Golden Heart Award held at the Beverly Hills Hotel to honor Clancy Imislund for his contributions to the Midnight Mission. About the Post Line The Post Line was created in the late 60’s. The first 10 pieces were originally designed for a company called Hudson Rissman. In the 70’s, Charles added several additions to the Post Line, this ended up being called the Post Trust Line. The Post Line was also recently featured in LACMA’s latest book and show: Living in a modern way. This line has had many influences including the double wedding band...

Charles Hollis Jones Waterfall Coffee Table in Acrylic, Chrome, 1960s
Located in Culver City, CA
This coffee table is absolutely stunning-- from Charles Hollis Jones' Waterfall line. The Charles Hollis Jones Waterfall line was a collection of furniture designed by Charles Hollis Jones in the 1960's. The Waterfall line is characterized by its sleek, modern design and use of acrylic materials. Jones is known for his innovative use of materials, particularly acrylic, which he began working with in the 1960s. The Waterfall line features clear acrylic pieces that appear to be suspended in mid-air, giving them a light and ethereal quality. The pieces are often paired with other materials such as chrome, brass, or wood, creating a striking contrast between the different textures. The Waterfall line included a variety of pieces such as tables, chairs, and benches, each with a unique design that highlights the beauty of the acrylic material. The pieces are designed to be functional and visually striking, and their clean lines and modern aesthetic have made them popular among collectors and design enthusiasts. Today, Charles Hollis Jones is considered one of the pioneers of acrylic furniture design, and his Waterfall line remains an important part of the mid-century modern design movement. We currently have this table in our gallery alongside a Karl Springer credenza...
