Oriental 19th Century Pair Of Coffee Tables
About the Item
An Attractive Late 19th Century Pair Of Oriental Hardwood Coffee Tables, Having Inset Marble To Elegantly Shaped Tops, Over Richly Carved Friezes Raised On Bold Cabriole Legs With Claw And Ball Feet.
It is pretty common to find tables of this design in varying shapes and sizes, produced sometime around the mid 19th century in China, specifically for shipping to the western markets, but it is much rarer to find true matching pairs of them such as these.
They are the absolute perfect size and form to be used as modern day coffee tables, which of course very few pieces of antique furniture can do, as they simply didn’t make what we regard as coffee table height furniture in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The tables are constructed from dense, hard wearing oriental hardwood, which in combination with the marble tops, ensures that the tables are unlikely to be easily damaged by spilled or hot drinks.
The overall condition is good, with no structural issues in terms of the woodwork and the tightness of joints, so they are very much ready for immediate use and as with all items which we offer for sale they have been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers, ensuring that they are ready for immediate placement and use.
