Console by Enrico Carlo Rava

About the Item

Console attributed to italian Architect and designer Carlo Enrico Rava. Carved and polished mahogany with an onyx top that has a knife edge going around the console. This piece dates to the early 1940s. Rava was a member of Gruppo 7 which was a group of Italian architects who wanted to reform architecture by the adoption of Rationalism. He was also a founding member of The Congrès Internationaux d'Architecture Moderne (CIAM) wirh the objective of spreading the principles of the Modern Movement focusing in all the main domains of architecture. Other founding members included Karl Moser (first president), Hendrik Berlage, Victor Bourgeois, Pierre Chareau, Sven Markelius, Josef Frank, Gabriel Guevrekian, Max Ernst Haefeli, Hugo Häring, Arnold Höchel, Huib Hoste, Pierre Jeanneret (cousin of Le Corbusier), André Lurçat, Ernst May, Max Cetto, Fernando García Mercadal, Hannes Meyer, Werner M. Moser, Gerrit Rietveld, Alberto Sartoris, Hans Schmidt, Mart Stam, Rudolf Steiger, Szymon Syrkus, Henri-Robert Von der Mühll, and Juan de Zavala. A little who is who of early 20th century European Architecture. This console was published in an article on Rava that was in Elle Decor back in March 2017. Please not the console in the photos is not pressed against the wall, console is designed to have the back flush with the wall if floor molding is average depth.
