19th century French Henri II neoclassical walnut confiturier, cabinet is a stellar example of the petite buffet with one door affectionately called the confiturier because of its original design being intended to store confit jars in the kitchen. At some point it became obvious that a very useful miniature buffet like this would be ideal for other rooms, and the genre blossomed. This example, rendered from sumptuous French walnut, features neoclassical architecture including turned columns carved with fletching on the face fitted with Doric capitals on each cornerpost, flanking the stylized pyramidal heraldic crest on display in full relief at the center of the cabinet door. Fletching also appears on the drawer facade above, with the entire affair graced with fine molded detail. Ideal as a bathroom vanity cabinet...

Of unusual design, it is designed for the corner yet presents a fully rounded facade, creating a quarter of a pie shape when viewed from above. Boldly molded crown molding combined with a spindle rail accented with turned urn finials on the corners combine to preside over the upper glazed door, one continuous curved glass pane set in a steel frame, which makes it even moreso unusual. Two sconce style glass shelves inside with finely scrolled supports combine with the single full size pie-shaped glass shelf to create unusual yet wonderful display possibilities. Directly underneath, two drawers emerge like slices of the pie to create additional convenient storage, and the lower section boasts twin cabinet...

19th Century French Renaissance writing table ~ student desk is a remarkable example of the furniture maker's craft, performed on a diminutive scale perfect for townhomes, apartments, libraries, studies, and a student's bedroom! Created entirely from old growth oak, it was literally designed to last for centuries. A single steel pendant pull for the drawer is the only other material used. Hand-carved bas relief covers the entire half-bullnose bevel around the perimeter, underneath a subtle ogee bevel surrounding the solid plank top. Another tier of ogee trim in reverse appears under the carved edging, and that's just the surface!
