19th century William IV mahogany roll top writing desk

About the Item

Fine quality English mahogany roll top desk circa 1830. Rare piece of English furniture we found on our travels to Sweden. Tambour roll top is in good working order. Top rolls back to reveal a fitted interior. 8 drawers, 4 of which are dummy drawers and 2 pull out slides for candles. 8 pigeon holes below. Green leather adjustable writing surface with gold tooling. 2 flame mahogany drawers with original brass swan neck handles, fitted with partitions and original blue paper lining. Shaped storage below the desk. Standing on tapering legs and brass castors. Replaced green leather writing surface. Restoration to left hand drawer cock beading. Expected minor surface marks. Knee height: 23 1/2" Knee width: 39"

For sale is a fine quality William IV rosewood writing table, possibly Scottish, with velvet inset surface to the central ratchet action flap, the underside with remains a paper label which reads "of Callendar / Callendar House, / Falkirk". The table is in very good condition for its age, with a lovely patina. The velvet inset is original and usable but would benefit from being replaced.
