20th Century, French Desk or Bureau Plat with Lions in the Antique Empire Style

About the Item

Bird's-eye maple wood on massive beech wood, partially carved and framed. The pedestal is arched on profile shaped washers. Above the four large winged, polygonal standing heads. Three-bar frame, brass-framed, protruding rectangular worktop with historically three-section, gold-embossed leather plate. In addition to the sides with pull-out panels with the same embossed leather fog. He is very rich in high-quality chased and patinated bronze. It is freely adjustable in space, front and back with the same fittings, which represent classicistic winged lions depicted in brass. The original was built in 1805 by Jacob Desmalter, the ebonist of Napoleon Bonaparte, in Paris, and is located in the Louvre Museum. Nowadays, a Ebenist needs the four months of continuous working time to make such a copy.
