Adaptable school desk by Jacques Hitier for Mobilor, France 1950s

About the Item

Adaptable school desk designed by Jacques Hitier, produced by Mobilor France in the 1950s, often falsely attributed to Jean Prouvé. The design is typical of the production of post-war french reconstruction era, with the specificity of having both the top and seating able to be adjusted in height, so it can be used for children of varying ages. The desk is made out of solid beech and painted steel, it has developped a beautiful patina with time and its use in schools during the 1950s. Overall condition is really good, the only wear, scratches or blotches in the paint are what is to be expected from a desk that was used by school children, there's some space to fit books under the top, and on the side a bent metal piece is designed to hold the school bag.
