The clean geometric shape of this desk is enhnaced by the use of finely grained walnut that sheathes the entire visible surface. The top, edges, sides, front and back are all covered with walnut chosen for its extreme linear appearance. The combination of the material with the shape of the desk give it an enormously sculptural presence that exemplifies the goal of Art Deco period design. The circular end of the writing surface is supported by a vertical slab that extends all the way to the floor. The opposite end of the writing surface is a squared off shape . Interestingly the designer has floated the top surface upon a slightly larger surface so there is a surprising moulded profile to the edge that is only evident as the desk is approached. On the opposite side of the desk is a larger block mass that contains the three fully working drawers each retaining the original circular brass knob. The designer of this desk chose to float the block of drawers upon a base that is slightly recessed but also set at a sloping angle away from the drawers before ending the support with a flat rectangular plinth. In order to ensure stability and strength the two separate sections are joined by a single cylinder of brass. The gleam of the brass against the warm colour of the walnut creates a handsome effect and the brass rod is a comfortable resting spot for a foot when seated at the desk. Because the writing surface does not have a drawer beneath it there is ample room for an armchair to be pulled up directly beneath the desk for ease of use.
