Fine Louis XV Style Marquetry Bureau Plat Attributed to François Linke

About the Item

A fine and Important Louis XV style Bureau plat attributed to François Linke (1855-1946) after a model by Jean François Oeben. Typical of the work by François Linke, this desk features the finest marquetry on oak frame, showing a geometric tromp l'oeil effect using different essences of wood veneers to created the illusion of three dimensional cubes. The desk is perfectly mounted with finely cast and re-chased bronze decorations, the bronze mounts are gilt with Linke's typical soft matt gilding and the writing surface of the desk is inset with the original tooled leather top retaining a beautiful aged patina. France, Circa 1880.
